BACKGROUND :

The Lancet Commission on Obesity plans to publish its report to coincide with a launch at PMAC. Obesity stands out as the single NCD risk factor which is getting worse in almost all countries. There are many obesity prevention policies recommended by WHO which are not being implemented by its Member States. The Commission considers that the drivers of obesity itself and the causes of the policy inertia are common to other global problems. The Global Syndemic of obesity, undernutrition and climate change is proposed as the greatest current and future cause of health loss. A syndemic is a synchrony of epidemics which co-occur in time and place, interact with each other, and have common causes. The solution side of this concept is the double or triple-duty actions which can have win-win benefits for obesity, undernutrition and climate change.

OBJECTIVES :

To launch the report of the Lancet Commission on Obesity and debate the concept of The Global Syndemic: how can it contribute to finding double- and triple-duty actions.
